Accused killer Ayman Manly has been ordered to send NSW Police a selfie every hour across the day as part of his bail conditions, in a move that has been labelled “bizarre” by senior law enforcement figures.
Last week, Manly was ordered by NSW Supreme Court Justice Richard Weinstein to buy the officer overseeing his case a new Apple iPhone, allowing him to send the selfies between 8am and 8pm.
Manly will also have to leave his iPhone location settings on, including Find My iPhone, Find My Network, and Send Last Location Settings, which the bail officer will be able to view.

Manly, who has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge, has been on bail since January and is under virtual house arrest and had to put up a staggering $5 million surety.
Currently, courts are re-determining bail conditions after the Minns government outlawed ankle monitoring bracelets as a condition of bail in NSW. The deadline for that is September 12.
The move is because the state discovered that company BailSafe had shut down without advising authorities.
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph on Monday, opposition police spokesperson Paul Toole said the introduction of selfies as a bail condition was a “dangerous” precedent.
Toole said: “To be frank, this is bulls**t. To think selfies can be a form of bail is mind boggling and just does not pass the pub test.”
Weinstein’s court orders state: “The Applicant is to transmit a photo of himself every hour between 8AM and 8PM (inclusive) on a daily basis to the Officer in Charge once the Officer in Charge has provided the dedicated telephone number.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the applicant is to transmit a photo of himself every hour at 8am, 9am, 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm, 5pm, 6pm, 7pm and 8pm.”
On Monday, Sunrise reporter Sam Payne spoke about the bail conditions.
“He (was) instructed to buy a new phone for his bail officer, so he could then send a photo to him every hour from 8am till 8pm,” Payne told Sunrise host Matt Shirvington.
“Now, Ayman Manly, the accused killer, is a part of this program, a situation right now where BailSafe, an ankle monitoring company, in charge of looking after just over 20 accused criminals, now that ceased operating without informing the police, the government and the courts causing this limbo.
“They outlawed the private completely that private ankle monitoring companies can exist.
“But until September 12, those individuals out of that 20, have had to have their cases reassessed.
“One has had to go back into system, deemed a flight risk.
“Ayman Manly has been given this incredibly unusual bail condition, to send that selfie every hour, included into a $5 million bail surety, and also virtual house arrest.
“But it is causing outrage. It is raising questions.
“The Opposition minister of police Toole believes it doesn’t pass the pub test and raises questions (are) there possibilities that easily get around this by maybe taking a lot of photos?
“The only way he is being tracked right now is by keeping his Find My iPhone services on.”
