Despite being a seemingly trivial thing, it was causing fights, the woman claimed on Mumsnet.
The Sunrise panel discussed the situation on Tuesday, when Edwina Bartholomew said: “A woman has taken to the internet to ask if it’s rude for her mother-in-law to bring her own kettle over to the house when staying the night.
“Apparently, the mother-in-law thinks her daughter-in-law’s kettle tastes funny ... a little bit plastic. And also ruins the tea.
“(She) loves a good cup of tea and likes it exactly the way she wants to make it, even if it means bringing her own kettle to someone else’s house.”
The daughter-in-law said had she was about to put her “foot down” and tell her mother-in-law to use the family kettle or don’t bother coming to visit.
A number of Mumsnet readers told her to get over it.
“I’d just let her get on with it and internally roll my eyes. Is it really worth falling out over?” one person wrote.
“In the broader scheme of pick your battles, I’d let this slide. She’s insane, of course, but life too short to create lots of drama over it,” another added.
The Sunrise team got a good laugh over the post.
“That’s fine,” David Woiwod said, as Monique Wright asked him: “What was your saying about the comments?”
Woiwod replied: “It’s like the best and worst of humanity lives in the comments section.”
Wright added: “People are jumping on and saying ‘Absolutely! Let her bring it. Then lord it over her once she arrives. Every time she goes to boil the jug, take photos of her’.”
Woiwod: “I think she’s more trouble than she’s worth, this mother-in-law.”
