The guest list is always difficult at a wedding.
But it has sent one soon-to-be bride to the HR department for not inviting a co-worker to her nuptials.
The bride shared details on Reddit, writing “This was honestly one of the weirdest work things I’ve ever dealt with,” the user wrote on the site before explaining that she’s not close to this colleague.

“We’ve had a small talk here and there, nothing deep. No lunches together. No real outside-of-work connection.”
The bride said her co-worker asked bluntly if she was invited, only to be told no.
“I kinda laughed and said, ‘Oh no, it’s really small. Just close friends and family’. I didn’t think anything of it.
“She got quiet and a little cold after that, but I figured okay, maybe awkward moment, whatever.”
That was when she was dragged into a human resources meeting.
“Turns out she filed a complaint saying I was being ‘exclusive’ and ‘creating a hostile environment by leaving people out’ ... Because I didn’t invite her. To my wedding. That I’m paying for. That isn’t work-related.
“So, I had to sit in this HR meeting and explain that I’m not required to invite co-workers I barely know to my literal wedding. That it’s a personal event ... That it has nothing to do with work or who’s in the office.”
HR didn’t pursue the matter. However, it has become awkward with the co-worker.
On Friday, Gold Cost Bulletin editor Cath Webber joined Nat Barr and journalist Justin Smith, to discuss the complaint.
“This person is in the bucket of what is wrong with people?” Webber said.
“They’ve never been to lunch together, they are not friends, and if you are the bride-to-be, you think you didn’t even cross my mind but thank God we never got to go to lunch or be friends let alone come to my wedding.
“Where do you find these people? That is crazy.”
Smith found it equally absurd.
Smith said: “When this is all done and dusted, the HR person is going to need a good night out, and a drink and a dance.
“And to relax. And some swearing. A few champagnes.”
