A number of ANZ staff have learned they were being made redundant before being officially told due to an email blunder.
Staff were meant to be notified about scheduled meetings with their managers but instead received automated emails detailing how to return their work laptops.
The bank issued an apology and offered psychological support to affected employees.

It is unknown how many staff were affected by the emails, but the bank confirmed that the distribution of the emails was halted as soon as they were made aware of it.
New ANZ chief executive Nuno Mato warned employees in a recent town hall flagged cuts, with 2000 roles expected to be axed from across the business.
On Friday, journalists Susie O’Brien and Luke Bona joined Nat Barr to speak about the blunder.
“This is such a bad look for the bank,” O’Brien said.
“If they can’t handle their HR, can they handle our money?
“Imagine being made redundant and finding out from the IT saying you’ve got to return laptop rather than HR explaining the broader situation.
“Banks at the moment in this country are under an enormous amount of pressure. They’ve got massive workforces. Productivity is low. They’ve got a lot of automation they’re trying to deal with.
“The Commonwealth Bank, the other day had to rescind making a whole lot of staff redundant in the call centre, the AI they were going to rely on didn’t work.
“Things are not great in bank land at the moment.”
Meanwhile, Bona was equally outraged.
“It’s dreadful. Imagine being on the receiving (end) of that,” Bona said.
“You have to return your laptop, why, didn’t you get the email. In radio, if you want to make sure you had a job, you used to see if your photo is taken down in the foyer.
“Is the photo up in the foyer, you should be alright tonight.
“Terrible blunder. It’s a massive oops. Very embarrassing.”
