Brisbane have signed Melbourne’s Grant Anderson and handed fellow outside back Josiah Karapani a new deal as uncertainty lingers around Selwyn Cobbo’s future.

It comes as St George Illawarra’s longest-serving active player Jack de Belin prepares to join Parramatta for 2026.

Anderson and Karapani will be with the Broncos until at least the end of 2027, joining Jesse Arthars, Kotoni Staggs, Deine Mariner and Gehamat Shibasaki as backline options on the club’s roster next year.

The new signings raise further questions as to the future of Cobbo, who has fallen dramatically out of favour under coach Michael Maguire.

The six-time Queensland representative was dropped from the NRL side after a big loss to Manly in May and is in the final season of a deal worth an estimated $625,000 annually.

Maguire said last week Cobbo’s contract talks would “sort themselves out” with on-field performances.

But a new deal for Karapani, the man who has replaced Cobbo in the backline for the past two games, appears ominous.

Elsewhere, Dragons veteran de Belin will join the Eels next season and miss the chance to become the joint venture’s most-capped player.

The forward’s management had opened up talks for a Dragons extension last month and he will now be part of the Eels’ rebuild under coach Jason Ryles.

The three-time NSW representative helps replenish a forward pack that has lost Bryce Cartwright and Joe Ofahengaue since Ryles took charge this year.

The 34-year-old made his NRL debut for the Dragons in 2011 and has played 242 games for the Red V - 31 shy of the club record set by 2010 premiership captain Ben Hornby.

The Dragons confirmed the news on Wednesday night.

“Jack has been an outstanding servant of the club over the past 15 years,” said St george Illawarra CEO Tim Watsford.

“These decisions are never easy, but as a club we need to balance the needs of the playing roster over both the short and long term and with a host of promising young forwards now emerging into genuine first graders we felt this was the best outcome for the club moving forward.

“While Jack won’t finish his career as a one-club player, there is no questioning the loyalty that has been shown both by Jack towards the Dragons and from the Dragons towards Jack over the past 15 years.

“He has been an outstanding player over a decade-and-a-half in the Red V and we wish him nothing but the very best for the next chapter of his career.”

De Belin said he had enjoyed every minute at the club and had made some “wonderful friends and memories”.

“I’m also grateful for the way the fans have always supported me since the day I arrived here as a teenager,” he said.

“My focus now is finishing the season off on a good note.”
