Master NRL coach Wayne Bennett bans Triple M after grubby joke about partner, Dale Cage

The station has apologised but the master coach and his partner are not happy.

Wayne Bennett has banned radio station Triple M after the network made a grubby joke about the master NRL coach’s partner, Dale Cage.

Triple M presenters seemingly lost their ‘respect’ radar, and decided to poke fun at Cage (they commented on her breast size) and the breakdown of Bennett’s marriage to former partner Trish.

Triple M has since apologised to Bennett but the damage has been done. It is unclear how long the Bennett ban will last, but he is refusing to speak to the station ahead of and after Souths’ clash with the Broncos this week.

The prank involved the network conducting a mock interview with Bennett, and they used a soundbite (on repeat) from a Bennett media conference to respond to their questions.

Following the loss to Cronulla, Bennett was asked about winning the wooden spoon.

“I knew someone would ask that question ... I’m not answering that, OK?,” Bennett said.

Triple M Brisbane presenters Greg Martin, Dan Anstey and Margaux Parker then decided to use that grab for their inappropriate stunt.

In the mock interview, Martin said: “Well, (Bennett) didn’t know I was about to enter the media room. I got there late ... I said, ‘Hey mate, remind me Wayne, ‘Why did you drop Wally from the Broncos?’.

And then they hit the button on the soundbite: “I knew someone would ask that question.”

The prank then took a strange and personal twist.

Martin said: “Why did you leave Trish, mate?”

Soundbite: “I knew someone would ask that question.”

Martin: “Darius (Boyd) and you ... I don’t understand that relationship.”

Soundbite: “I knew someone would ask that question.”

Anstey: “Is it true that you, Greg Martin from Triple M and Clint Eastwood are the exact same person Wayne?”

Soundbite: “I knew someone would ask that question.”

Parker: “How big are Dale’s boobs, Wayne?”

Soundbite: “I knew someone would ask that question.”

Then someone says to Parker: “That’s ridiculous. That is so rude of you.”

It has been reported that Cage was listening to show when the prank went to air.

It is said she called network management to complain and Parker called Bennett after the show.

Parker is the wife of NRL great Corey Parker, who was coached by Bennett.

Bennett did not want to address the prank but called it personal.

“That’s personal stuff, so I’m not going to go into that,” he told News Corp.

“You talk to them (Triple M).

“If they want to say something about their behaviour, you talk to them, but I’m not saying anything more.”

Souths CEO Blake Solly called it a “private matter” for his coach to handle.

“We understand it’s been dealt with,” Solly said.

“Wayne has the club’s total support.”
