Sydney Swans premiership hero Nick Davis splits with AFL club after 20 years

‘Thanks for the memories.’

Sydney Swans premiership hero Nick Davis has announced he is leaving the AFL club after 20 seasons in a variety of roles.

The 45-year-old first joined the Swans as a player at the end of 2002, having started his career as a Collingwood father-son product.

He etched his name into Sydney folklore in their 2005 premiership year after kicking four goals straight in the final quarter to lead the Swans to a semi-final victory over Geelong.

Davis kicked three goals in the one-point defeat to West Coast in the 2006 grand final before a knee injury brought his career to a sudden end two years later.

Any disappointment over his delisting was cleared up when he was brought back into the fold as a Swans academy coach for 2011.

The call-up kicked off a long second stint that took in roles with the AFL side, further spells with the boys and girls academy teams and most recently a stretch as an AFLW senior assistant coach.

“After 15 years coaching at the Sydney Swans, I’ve made the call to move on,” Davis announced on Monday.

“I’ve coached across every level and am proud to have helped build culture, set the standard and bring success to the club.

“I’m excited and looking forward to what’s next. Thanks for the memories.”

Davis has taken on a series of roles around football and sport outside the Swans.
