Essendon youngster Luamon Lual has remarkably walked away unscathed after getting tunneled and crashing face-first into the GMHBA Stadium turf on Friday night.
The 20-year-old courageously ran back with the flight of the ball to compete for a mark just as his teammate Dylan Shiel pushed Geelong defender Mark O’Connor into his path.

Because of the push, O’Connor inadvertently tunneled Lual, who flipped upside-down while he was mid-air and came crashing down onto his head before the rest of his body followed.
Shiel’s was an action that has been scrutinised heavily by the AFL this year, with Richmond’s Rhyan Mansell having been suspended earlier in the year for a very similar incident, given the potential to cause injury it poses.
This case shapes as a unique one if it were to be penalised though, given Shiel was posing a danger to his own teammate.
But given Lual was able to get up and walk off, it’s unlikely to be anything more than a fine.
“Lual — that is up-ended. Let’s hope he’s OK, that’s a dangerous position to be in,” James Brayshaw said on Channel 7 when it happened.
“It’s a free kick (to O’Connor for the push), but Luamon Lual was in a really dangerous spot in the air.”

The match was stopped as medical staff rushed out to Lual, who was able to stand up and walk off without any assistance.
“Gee, I think he’s OK, but gee that looked nasty,” Matthew Richardson said.
Dale Thomas said the incident was a good example of why the AFL has this year tried to legislate such dangerous pushes into oncoming players out of the game.
“That’s why, the AFL, we often criticise knee-jerk reactions, but that push into the pack, that’s why you’ve got to take it out,” he said.
Richardson added: “That’ll be looked at, there’s no doubt.”
