Carlton young gun Ben Camporeale’s chances of an AFL debut this season have hit a major hurdle at the VFL tribunal.
Camporeale, the son of Blues great Scott Camporeale, had been banned for four matches for pushing opponent Deven Robertson into another player during clash between Carlton and Brisbane at Ikon Park on Friday.

The Blues decided to appeal the decision on Wednesday night but the VFL tribunal was having none of it, with the four-match suspension to remain.
In the incident, the Lions players clashed heads and were both left sprawled out on the ground immediately after the 18 year-old’s push.
Robertson suffered a concussion and broken teeth, while his teammate James Tunstill also entered concussion protocols.
Play was stopped while trainers attended to the pair but they both managed to walk off the field despite being in a world of pain.
After the appeal failed, the club issued a matter-of-fact statement on Wednesday night.
“Ben Camporeale had his careless conduct charge and four-match suspension upheld by the VFL tribunal tonight,” Carlton said.
“Camporeale was charged for an incident that occurred in the Blues’ VFL match against the Brisbane Lions last Friday, which was graded as careless conduct, severe impact and high contact.
“The club contested the charge, and the charge was upheld by the VFL tribunal on Wednesday night.”
The suspension obviously also applies to AFL games and, with only six more matches of the home and away season to go and Carlton out of the finals race, it is highly unlikely that Camporeale will now feature at AFL level in 2025.
Camporeale was selected with pick No.43 in last year’s AFL draft.
And he has been in strong form in the VFL, averaging 21.9 disposals and 4.5 tackles a game.
He has also had 25 or more possessions in six games.
Twin brother Lucas, who was taken with pick No.54 in the same draft, has played two senior matches this year.
