A young Scout leader has been charged with sexual and property offences following an investigation into incidents at a campground.

The 28 alleged offences took place at the Rocky Creek Campground on Old Gympie Road at the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, a venue used by the Landsborough Scout Group, police said.

The charges stem from a report received in December 2024, which alleged that the man had been seen looking into children’s bathrooms during an event.

Police have stated that they are aware there may be further victims.

Investigations revealed the man had allegedly been spying on children in bathrooms since 2022 and had stolen children’s underwear from tents between 2023 and 2024.

Police allege the man used his volunteer role to gain access to children aged 13 to 16.

During a search of his Caboolture home on May 5, detectives seized multiple electronic devices and uncovered children’s underwear in a plush panda backpack.

The man was arrested and charged with 17 counts of entering a dwelling and committing an offence, five counts of mistreatment of children under 16, five counts of unlawful stalking and one count of breaching privacy.

Scouts Queensland said it acted immediately upon receiving the initial report.

“A child safety report was received by Scouts Queensland in December 2024 and this matter was then reported to the Queensland Police Service,” the organisation said in a statement.

“The former Scout Section Leader’s membership was terminated on the same day that the child safety report was received.

“Scouts Queensland is actively assisting the Queensland Police Service with its investigation and will continue to provide all assistance possible.

“Direct support and counselling to current and former youth and adult members is being provided.”

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Grant Gleeson has urged anyone with further information or similar experiences to come forward.

“Due to the nature of the man’s alleged offending, and the access he had to children over many years, we are conscious there may be further victims that are yet to report incidents to police,” Gleeson said.

“We encourage witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

“If you believe you have been offended against, please report it to police.

“It is not your fault, and there are multiple support options available.”

Parents and guardians are urged to speak with children about appropriate behaviour, even from trusted adults, and how to report any concerns.
