A little girl has died after being struck by a falling palm tree on Saturday afternoon.

The seven-year-old girl was playing in the yard of a Tiwi property, north of Darwin, when she was struck at about 1.55pm.

She died in an ambulance on the way to Royal Darwin Hospital.

An 11-year-old boy was also injured by the falling palm tree, but the injuries he suffered were non-life-threatening.

NT Police also responded to the scene and investigations are ongoing.

The incident is not believed to be suspicious.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
