A family’s holiday has ended in chaos after a grandfather allegedly attempted to drown his daughter-in-law during a heated confrontation.

The British family was staying at the Solterra Resort in Davenport, approximately 65km south of Orlando in Florida, when the incident occurred on Sunday.

What began as a disagreement between Mark Gibbon and Jasmine Wyld quickly turned violent, as the pair argued about his will, with the altercation spilling over into the resort’s swimming pool, according to local authorities.

In a shocking twist, Ms Wyld’s nine-year-old daughter jumped into the pool to try to pull the 62-year-old off her mother after watching the entire scuffle unfold.

A witness told police that Mr Gibbon “pushed” his granddaughter away and made a second attempt to drag Ms Wyld’s head underwater.

She said that she “observed (Mr Gibbon) push (Ms Wyld) under the water and hold her there multiple times,” according to the police report.

The witness also claimed she saw Mr Gibbon scratch Ms Wyld’s chest.

According to People, Mr Gibbon is now facing a single count of attempted murder and two counts of felony battery as a result of the incident.

While admitting to holding Ms Wyld “underwater a few times”, Mr Gibbon claims it was never his intention to drown his daughter-in-law.

Mr Gibbon is being held at the Polk County Jail without bail.
