Woman’s burning body found near car on fire at property north of Newcastle

The woman was discovered near a pond and could not be revived.

A grim discovery has been made following reports of a car fire about 10.45pm on Saturday.

A 43-year-old woman was found near a pond, suffering serious burns a short distance away from the burning car, at a property on Nelson Bay Rd at Salt Ash, about 30-minutes north of Newcastle.

The woman was unable to be revived by responding paramedics, and was declared dead.

Fire and Rescue NSW arrived to extinguish the car fire.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious, NSW Police said.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Police are speaking to witnesses as part of an ongoing investigation.
