An elderly woman has died after she was struck by a car in Adelaide’s northwest.

The 81-year-old was hit on Hanson Rd in Mansfield Park just before 6.30pm on Sunday.

She died at the scene.

The alleged driver, a 29-year-old man, had initially left the scene but handed himself in to police a short time later.

His car was seized and he was later charged with failing to stop after a collision.

The man was bailed to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court in July.

Hanson Rd was closed in both directions between Hamilton Rd and Waller St for several hours but has since reopened.
