Five people were in the car at the time of the crash.

A woman has died after a car carrying a family of five, including children, collided with a train in WA’s Great Southern region.

Emergency services were called to a crossing at Redmond-Hay River Rd, near the intersection of Siding Rd, in the Albany area of Redmond just before 2pm on Wednesday.

Five people, including a 29-year-old female passenger, a 39-year-old male driver and three children aged under 10, were in the Mitsubishi Triton when it collided with a freight train.

The woman tragically could not be saved.

The man and three children were taken to hospital but their injuries are not life-threatening.

Two men on the train were treated for shock.

Great Southern Police Acting Superintendent Rhonda Alexander said police are investigating and anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers.
