Moments earlier, the scooter was seen weaving through traffic on Bay St, with the ute close behind.

The 57-year-old ute driver from St Kilda then appeared to deliberately ram the scooter from the right, sending the 38-year-old rider from Dingley Village crashing to the ground.

The scooter rider quickly got to his feet and confronted the driver, unleashing a barrage of punches.

Police said both men sustained minor injuries but declined medical treatment.

They are expected to be interviewed by police at a later stage as investigations continue.
