The truckie had to be carefully extracted from the cab of his vehicle.

A truck driver has been taken to hospital following a major crash with a freight train on Monday.

The driver’s rig and the train collided near the intersection of Bishop Rd and Hopkinson Rd in Cardup, a suburb of Perth’s outer southeast, just before 1pm.

Emergency services raced to the scene and firefighters had to carefully free the truckie from his vehicle before he was taken to hospital.

Rail freight operator Aurizon said its crew were not hurt but have been left shaken, 7NEWS reported.
