A car has rolled on the Tullamarine Freeway and landed on its roof after a crash involving a number of vehicles.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at Essendon North on Saturday afternoon following reports of a major collision between three to four cars.

Photos showed the white sedan flipped on its roof on the freeway.

Other motorists slowed down as authorities diverted traffic.

A Victorian Department of Transport spokesperson said multiple lanes were closed with drivers warned to expect extensive delays.

“Two of the three airport-bound lanes of the Tullamarine Freeway are closed after the Calder Freeway split, due to a collision,” the Department of Transport sad.

“Only one outbound lanes is open. Delays are building quickly.

“The inbound right lane also closed approaching the Bell Street exit.”
