The a2 Milk Company product pulled from WA shelves over listeria contamination fears

Shoppers have been warned they could be at risk of ‘severe illness’ if they consume it.

A popular brand of milk sold at major retailers is being stripped from from supermarket shelves over contamination concerns.

A recall of the a2 Milk Company’s 2L light milk, available for sale in WA only, was triggered due to potential listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Authorities said the bacteria can lead to “severe illness” in pregnant women, unborn babies, newborns, the elderly, and people who are immunocompromised.

“The general population can also become ill from consuming food contaminated with listeria monocytogenes,” read a recall notice from Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ).

The product has been available for sale in WA only and relates to light milk with a use-by date marking of “06/06 #41”.

Consumers who have bought that batch of milk have been warned against drinking it.

Shoppers should either ditch the product or return it to their place of purchase for a full refund.

“Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice,” FSANZ said.
