Six teenagers injured as allegedly stolen car crashes during police pursuit near Newcastle

A 15-year-old boy is believed to have been driving.

Six teenagers have been injured when an allegedly stolen car crashed while being chased by police.

Police spotted the car while patrolling on Woodberry Rd in Millers Forest, north of Newcastle, about 4.15am.

The car failed to stop and police began a pursuit which lasted less than a minute before the car left the road and crashed at Woodberry, about 5km north of Hexham.

Police found six teenagers — a boy aged 14, two boys aged 15, a boy aged 16, a girl aged 14 and a girl aged 15 — inside the car and provided first aid to them before paramedics arrived.

All six were taken to John Hunter Hospital, where they remain.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

The car had been stolen from a unit on Molly Morgan Dr in East Maitland during a break and enter on Wednesday night, police said.

“Checks have since revealed the car was stolen during an aggravated break-and enter-on a home in East Maitland overnight,” police said.

“Initial inquiries indicate a 15-year-old boy was driving the car at the time of the crash.”

Investigations continue and no charges have yet been laid.
