Shocking CCTV shows moment gunmen storm Auburn kebab store, shooting three in ‘brazen’ daylight attack

One of the triple shooting victims has now survived four attempts on his life this year.

Chilling footage has emerged of the moment two masked men stormed a Sydney business, shooting and seriously injuring three people in what police believe was a calculated and deliberate attack.

Alleged underworld figure Samimjan Azari, 26, was shot in the shoulder and arm at Auburn Turkish takeaway, M Brothers, at about 1.10pm on Monday.

It was the fourth attempt on his life this year, with Azari narrowly escaping another serious threat in Rosehill on Friday, NSW Police revealed.

In the restaurant CCTV footage, Azari can be seen shielding himself with a chair as the gunmen moved in.

An innocent female staff member was caught in the middle of the “brazen” daylight attack, and shot twice in the torso.

The woman, an employee, is in a stable condition, as is Azari, who is expected to fully recover.

A 25-year-old male associate of Azari was shot in the face and is listed as critical but stable.

After firing eight shots, the gunmen attempted to gain access to a room at the back of the business but failed and fled the scene in a black Audi Q7 with cloned plates.

The car was found burnt out on Wigram St in Harris Park on Monday night.

On Tuesday, police revealed they are also investigating another attempted attack on Azari that played out just days earlier.

“On this occasion, witnesses sighted a white ute with several occupants and their faces covered, and one occupant was believed to be holding a firearm,” Detective Superintendent Jason Box said.

Azari and his associates “fled the scene”, with Box saying they “provided limited information” when they spoke to police.

The white ute was found torched on Gerald St in Greystanes early on Tuesday.

A third car — a red Commodore with cloned plates — is currently being looked over by forensics after it was found burnt out on Hilltop Rd in Merrylands.

“We are still investigating if this red Commodore has any connection to any offence we’re investigating,” Box said.

Marked man

The two most recent attempts on Azari come after he survived a third only last month, where it is believed he was the intended target of a deadly car shooting in Granville.

Two others in the front of the car were hit, with one dying in hospital a few days later.

He also narrowly escaped a shooting in Brighton-Le-Sands in February.

Police have spoken to Azari on nine occasions in the few weeks since Taskforce Falcon was set up to address violent crime in Sydney, warning him his life is in danger.

“We’ve given him all the information that we can to assist him with protecting himself. What he chooses to do with that information is a matter for him,” Box said.

Box said Monday’s shooting and the continued threat — “this is the fourth attempt on this fella that we’re aware of” — shows how “determined” his enemies are to get him.

He added: “I’m hoping that this individual reassesses his movements. I’m hoping that he’s not accessible, I’m hoping that he does take aboard the advice that we’ve given and that it does not present an opportunity like we’ve seen yesterday.”

Recruitment drive

A manhunt is ongoing to find those responsible for Monday’s lunchtime shooting.

“We’ve got extremely talented and dedicated detectives working on this and I hope that we can resolve this matter soon,” Box said.

About 40 police officers are in the field retracing the movements of the getaway Audi.

Box said hundreds of police jobs had been undertaken under Taskforce Falcon, including talking with people of interest, visiting locations of interest, making two dozen arrests and laying more than 50 charges for serious offences.

“We’ve been speaking to persons of interest, we’ve warned people about their safety, we’ve made numerous arrests, we’ve recovered firearms, vehicles off the streets, and we’re doing absolutely everything we can to ensure this does not happen again,” Box said.

The detective superintendent denied there was evidence that online marketplaces are being used to recruit people to carry out gang-related jobs, but did believe they are being lured into the underworld via encrypted devices, social media and word of mouth.

“I believe from some of the offenders that we have arrested recently, some have no connection to organised crime networks until such times as they commit these offences,” he said.

“There’s been a lot of juveniles that have been committing offences that obviously have no connection to this high-level crime so I believe it is common and I believe it’s increasing.”
