The driver in his 70s took a wrong turn onto the tracks as the train approached.

A driver has escaped a hair-raising incident unharmed after getting stuck on train tracks on Wednesday.

The man in his 70s took a wrong turn onto the train tracks along Hawker St at Bowden, in Adelaide’s north, at about 6.30pm.

His car was half on the tracks when the vehicle became bogged, as an oncoming train approached.

“Luckily, the car was spotted by the driver of an approaching train and the train stopped without incident,” SA Police said.

No injuries were reported.

The car was towed from the scene and the driver was fined.
