A man is wanted by police after allegedly assaulting a man at a small grocery store in Adelaide’s north on Saturday afternoon while armed with a knife.

Emergency services were called to shops on Spruance Rd in Elizabeth East at about 2pm after a reported attempted knife attack.

At the scene was a 56-year-old man from Elizabeth Vale, who told police he was approached by another man who had a knife and tried to stab him.

In CCTV seen by 7NEWS, he defends himself with his guitar, before dropping it.

The man with the knife then stomps on the guitar before the pair continue to brawl in the nearby car park.

The convenience store owner, Peter Lam, who has been in Elizabeth East for more than two decades told 7NEWS he is considering closing his store due to escalating violence in the area.

“We’re trying to do business and serve the community, and I just think this area is not safe for people,” he told 7NEWS.

“I hope there’s more law enforcement and consequences.

“I’ve been here 21 years and half of my life spent here, and to see things like this happen in my area is sad.”

The 56-year-old man received treatment for minor injuries.

Police searched the area and were unable to locate the suspect.
