A family of four have been left homeless after a fire engulfed their home on Monday morning.

The Metropolitan Fire Service told 7NEWS that the blaze started in the roof, most likely due to a problem with electrical wiring.

Neighbours have promised to lend a hand to the family.

“Oh dear ... always important to have insurance, but we’re here to help them,” one neighbour told 7NEWS.

The fire is being treated as ‘non-suspicious’ with no reported injuries at the scene.

The blaze caused about $150,000 worth of damage to the home.
