What should have been a day of celebration became a day of unimaginable tragedy, with an infant dying in a house fire at a birthday party, leaving another child fighting for life in hospital.

Sunday was five-year-old Jordan’s birthday and friends and family were gathered to celebrate when the fire occurred.

Emergency crews raced to the property on Benboyd Circle in Rokeyby on Sunday morning, as the home became consumed by flames with adults and children still inside.

Tasmania Fire Service crews arrived to find the home “fully alight”.

Tragically, as emergency services attempted to rescue those in danger, they found an infant deceased within the property.

A Tasmania Police spokesperson said: “Sadly, an infant was found deceased inside the residence, and another young child and an adult were taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital with serious injuries.”

One-year-old Harlyn, Jordan’s younger sister, has been identified as the infant who tragically lost her life in the devastating blaze.

Three other children were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Tenille Siely, describing herself as best friend and family, said the grieving relatives are “broken”.

“Saying this day has been hard is an understatement. One beautiful baby girl has lost her life and her sister is fighting to survive,” Ms Siely wrote online.

“Harlyn has lost her life and her older sister Jordan is fighting for her life in hospital on her fifth birthday.

“The house and all contents where the aunty and her two boys lived are completely gone and they have nothing left.”

Tasmania Fire Service is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and a report is being prepared for the Coroner.

Ms Siely has launched a GoFundMe page to support the family, raising funds for the funeral and to help get them back on their feet.
