Canadian motorbike rider and woman fighting for life after dirt track and driveway tragedies in Queensland

The two separate incidents in northern Queensland are under investigation.

Out-of-control vehicles have killed a man and left a woman fighting for life in two separate incidents in northern Queensland on Friday.

The 75-year-old Canadian man died when he lost control of his motorbike and crashed on a dirt track in the the Rinyirru National Park, about two-and-a-half hours northwest of Cooktown, about 1.30pm.

Paramedics were unable to save the man when they arrived at the remote area on Lakefield Rd at Lakefield, Queensland Police said.

Less than three hours later, a 75-year-old Bayview Heights woman was hit by her own car in the driveway of a Glen Cl home, about five-hours southeast.

The car is understood to have been rolling down her driveway.

“The woman was trying to stop the car from rolling down the driveway when it ran over her,” police said.

“There was no one driving the vehicle at the time.”

The 75-year-old woman was critically injured, and was taken to Cairns Hospital fighting for life.

Crash investigators are currently looking into both of the incidents.
