Hundreds of passengers have faced nearly a day’s delay after an aerobridge grazed a Qantas plane at Sydney Airport.
Flight QF63 to South Africa’s Johannesburg was scheduled to depart at 9.30am on Saturday when the incident occurred just before boarding.
The aerobridge made contact with one of the A380’s four engines, causing damage and forcing the flight to be postponed until the following day.

No one was injured, and passengers were disembarked via the aircraft’s lower deck.
Qantas confirmed the incident in a statement, saying an investigation is underway.

“We’re investigating how an aerobridge made contact with the engine of one of our aircraft at Sydney Airport this morning,” a spokesperson said.
“The aircraft will be inspected by engineers in Sydney and repaired before returning to service.”
The rescheduled departure time is 6.45am on Sunday.
Affected passengers were offered overnight accommodation and transport if needed.
“We know flight disruptions are frustrating and we apologise to our customers for the impact to their travel,” the spokesperson added.
This incident comes just weeks after another Qantas aircraft struck an aerobridge at Brisbane International Airport.
On June 18, a Boeing 737-800 arriving from New Zealand’s Queenstown collided with the passenger bridge while taxiing at about 6.30pm.
The aircraft’s front windscreen was shattered, but no injuries were reported.
