Powerball Draw #1528: Four players share $80m jackpot

Two of the winners have revealed how they plan to spend their ‘life-changing’ prize money.

Historic powerball draw

Mansions, exotic cars, first class flights and five star hotels are all within reach for four lucky lotto players who will split Thursday’s $80m Powerball jackpot.

The winning numbers for Powerball draw #1529 were: 9, 22, 23, 3, 13, 28 and 32. The Powerball was 5.

Four players — two from Victoria and one each from Queensland and WA — matched all seven numbers and the Powerball to win division one.

It is the first time in more than 10 years of Powerball that four winning entries will share the division one jackpot.

A woman in her 20s from Woolloongabba, Brisbane, was in “shock” with her new-found wealth, which she secured with “all my lucky numbers”.

“This is just a one-off. I saw it was an $80 million draw, and I just picked all my lucky numbers, such as my family’s birthdays.

“I’ve just gotten out of the shower and saw I had some missed calls. I thought, ‘What the hell?’,” she said.

“I’m still shaking. I can buy my own house. Travel. I’m just speechless.

“This is life-changing.”

Incredibly, gaming officials said she also secured an extra $565,000 on top of the $20m because her PowerHit entry, which guarantees players the Powerball, scored her division two 19 times.

It was a similar story in Mooroopna, near Shepparton, north of Melbourne.

“That’s my family and friends in the background. I can’t hear you over everyone screaming,” a woman told The Lott, moments after the monster win.

“These are my lucky numbers. I play them every week.

“I can retire and go on a holiday. I’m shaking. I can’t stop.”

Search for another winner

The search is on for a third division one ticket picked up from East Brighton Newsagency in Brighton, southeast Melbourne.

As the ticket was not registered to The Lott Members Club, the identity of the ticketholder remains a mystery, and they may have yet to discover they’re now $20 million richer.

“This is the best news. This is actually the first division one winning ticket we’ve sold since I took over ownership two years ago,” newsagency owner Sajjad Sadeghi Goorbandi said.

There was also luck in the tiers below, with 43 tickets scoring almost $30,000 each in division two by matching seven numbers but not the Powerball.

Division three prizes of $10,600 were banked by 150 players who had six winning numbers and the Powerball.

One in four Australians bought a ticket for the second largest jackpot this year.

The current top is the $100m drawn on June 12, although the sole winner of that prize is yet to come forward after 12 weeks.

The last time an $80m Powerball jackpot was won, it was split between two players who each took home $40m

Before Thursday’s draw, there had been 11 Powerball division one winners sharing in $353.4 million this year.

Four winners each came from Queensland and New South Wales, with two in Victoria and one in Western Australia.
