A young woman has died after a car she was travelling in left a dirt road and crashed into an irrigation channel in regional South Australia.

About 1pm on Tuesday, emergency services arrived to find a car had crashed into a “body of water” on Pump Rd in Mobilong near Murray Bridge, South Australia, police said.

The passenger, a 21-year-old Murray Bridge woman, died at the scene, while the driver, a 21-year-old Northern Heights woman, suffered minor injuries.

Police have asked the public to avoid the area.
