Coldplay ‘kiss cam’: Interim Astronomer CEO responds after cheating scandal forces old boss to resign

The interim CEO of Astronomer has a message for the company’s customers and the world.

The new chief executive of the tech company embroiled in the Coldplay concert cheating scandal says the “unusual and surreal” media attention has now made the business a household name.

Software development company Astronomer was propelled into the spotlight last week when its then CEO Andy Byron was caught allegedly having an affair with his colleague, chief people officer Kristin Cabot.

The pair were spotted embracing on the big screen “kiss cam” at Coldplay’s concert in Boston, with their unexpected reaction creating a storm on social media.

When they realised they were being broadcast to the entire stadium, Cabot covered her face with her hands while Byron ducked completely out of frame.

“Oh, look at these two. You’re all right. You’re OK. Oh, what? Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy,” Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin joked.

Video of the interaction was posted to TikTok and quickly went viral, leading online sleuths to quickly identify the pair and that they were both married, but to other people.

Both Astronomer and Byron’s LinkedIn were bombarded with comments from people making jokes about the incident, forcing the CEO to delete his account.

Astronomer finally acknowledged the incident on Friday saying there would be a “formal investigation” into what happened.

The next day it was announced Byron had been placed on leave and co-founder and chief product officer Pete DeJoy would step in as interim CEO.

Soon after Byron officially resigned.

DeJoy has now weighed in on the incident and his appointment as interim CEO, saying Astronomer had received a level of media attention and scrutiny that few start-ups would ever encounter.

“The spotlight has been unusual and surreal for our team and, while I would never have wished for it to happen like this, Astronomer is now a household name,” he said.

“At Astronomer we have never shied away from challenges. A near-decade of building this business has tested us time and time again, and each time we’ve emerged stronger.

“We’re here because Astronomer is built by people who live to solve hard problems, stay late to fix what’s broken, and care deeply about doing things the right way.”

DeJoy said he was stepping into the role with a “wholehearted commitment” to his team and customers, and thanked his colleagues for their resilience.

“To our community and customers: thank you for your trust. We won’t let you down.”

Neither Byron nor Cabot have publicly responded to the incident.

According to a now deleted LinkedIn post, it appears as though Cabot only started at the company seven months ago.

Byron’s wife was tracked down on social media, with her Facebook account flooded with messages of sympathy.

She allegedly removed his last name from her Facebook profile after the fallout.
