More children urged to test for STIs amid growing list of childcare centres that employed accused paedophile Joshua Brown

Joshua Brown has been charged with horrific offences against children who were under his care.

Police have confirmed four more childcare centres in Melbourne where accused paedophile Joshua Brown worked, with more children now recommended to be tested for sexually transmitted infections.

Horrific allegations against Brown, 26, were made public earlier this month when police revealed he had been charged with more than 70 sex offences involving eight children at a centre in Point Cook.

At the time, police said Brown had worked at 20 childcare centres between January 2017 and May 2025.

As part of an ongoing investigation, on Tuesday police confirmed Brown had worked at four additional childcare centres during this time period:

  • Kids Academy Waratah Estate in Mickleham
  • Milestones Early Learning in Tarneit
  • Milestones Early Learning in Braybrook
  • Milestones Early Learning in Greensborough

Police had initially said Brown worked at Papilio Early Learning in Hoppers Crossing between August 22, 2024 and March 12, 2025, however this information has been revealed as incorrect. Brown was never employed there.

Employment dates for 10 childcare centres where Brown had worked have also been updated, with the new information published on the Victorian Government’s website.

“Agencies are in the process of contacting the families who had children placed at the four new impacted centres during the time of Brown’s employment,” Victoria Police said.

“Where additional dates have been identified, impacted families will be contacted by the Department of Health from 15 July 2025.”

Due to the update, the state’s health department says it will now be contacting 830 families and recommending 800 children be tested for STIs.

“This is obviously a highly distressing situation, and I want to reassure all families being contacted that the potential exposure risk to an infectious disease for their child remains low,” Victorian Chief Health Officer Dr Christian McGrath said.

“Our recommendation for testing is a precaution and the test results we’ve received to date as part of this investigation reaffirms that the risk is low.

“There remains no wider public health risk, and importantly the infectious diseases being tested for can be treated with antibiotics.”

Initially more than 1200 children at the centres where Brown worked were recommended to undergo testing for serious sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis.

Brown’s alleged victims were aged between five months and two-years-old and his charges include sexual penetration of a child under 12, attempted sexual penetration of a child under 12 and producing child abuse material.

He is also accused of using his bodily fluids to contaminate children’s food.

Police said trying to establish where Brown worked has been “extremely complex” due to childcare providers not having centralised records.

Investigators have so far responded to more than 270 Crimestoppers reports regarding Brown’s offending.

Acting Commander Janet Stevenson said the investigation remains the “highest priority” for Victoria Police.

“We understand many people in the community will still be feeling shocked and anxious in relation to this matter,” she said.

“We are working through a large amount of information that has been provided to us.

“I understand there are people who will be frustrated and I want to reinforce that this is a continually evolving and changing situation.”

Fresh allegations against Brown were revealed on Sunday by the Daily Telegraph, which reported Brown was previously at the centre of two separate investigations.

Early childhood education provider G8 Education sent a letter to families on Saturday, saying Brown had been investigated in April 2023 after he was accused of aggressive conduct towards a child.

“(He) aggressively picked up and put down and did not uphold the dignity and rights of a child in his care,” the e-mail said.

The allegations were reported by three team members.

Brown was given a “written formal warning” and placed on an improvement plan for his work performance following the alleged incident. Brown opted to take extended leave after the disciplinary action.

In a separate alleged incident in 2024, Brown “forcibly grabbed the arm of one child, the leg of another child and forcibly pulled off that child’s shoe”, according to the e-mail.

He was suspended during the second investigation and eventually resigned.

Both incidents were reported to Victoria Police and the education department.
