A 32-year-old man, Mohammad Sofwan Bin Mustafha, was arrested at the home and taken to hospital for assessment.

He has since been discharged and was taken to a police station on Tuesday, where he was charged with murder.

Mustafha did not appear when his case was mentioned at Burwood Local Court on Tuesday.

He was refused bail and remanded in custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for July 30.

Mustafha’s lawyer, Osman Samin, said on Tuesday afternoon his client was “understandably shocked”.

“It is a tragic incident,” Samin said.

“There is presently a great deal that is unknown.

“I’m not in a position to make any real substantive comment about the allegations.

“All that I will say is that the presumption of innocence applies, as it does to every accused person.”

Police are appealing for assistance in finding a second man who they believe can help with their investigation.

The man is described as being Asian in appearance and was last seen on Kembla St, Croydon Park, on Monday afternoon.

Pictures of the man have been released, showing him wearing a black jumper with red symbols on the back, blue jeans, black shoes, a black hat, and carrying a black satchel.

Superintendent Christine McDonald described the incident as a gruesome crime, adding that the victim’s injuries were horrific.

She said the stabbing is not believed to be domestic or gang-related, with police treating the incident as a drug deal gone wrong.

Anyone with information about the second man or the incident has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
