A 54-year-old woman was rescued by police and treated for smoke inhalation.
She was taken to Townsville University Hospital for further treatment.
One unit was found fully engulfed in flames, which had spread to a second unit by the time officers arrived on scene, police said.
Officers involved in the rescue were also treated for smoke inhalation, however, no one else was injured.
West End local Nakita Greatz spoke to 7NEWS at the time and said she had been driving home from dinner when she saw the commotion.
“We pulled over to the side (of the road) and saw some smoke coming from the roof,” she said.
“Then we saw a silver car pull up, a man and a woman got out, obviously it was the homeowners.
“We heard that there was a dog caught in there, and the man dropped to the ground saying ‘no, please no’.”
Greatz said police pulled two dogs from the property, however, their condition was unknown.
Following extensive investigations, police allege that the fire was deliberately lit.
A 44-year-old man has been charged with arson, among other offences.
He has been refused bail and will appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on September 12.
