The street was shut down as detectives from Operation Xray Elting scoured the scene for evidence.
Police said the fatal stabbing may have occurred as early as 11pm on Sunday.
“Following extensive investigations, police will allege a disturbance occurred at the address, resulting in the 57-year-old man sustaining fatal stab wounds,” police said on Thursday.
Police said Bilic was home alone at the time of the alleged attack.

His wife, Gry Tomte, runs a popular skincare clinic in Melbourne’s St Kilda and was interstate at the time.
“His wife hadn’t heard from him and asked a neighbour to check,” police said.
“That’s when he was found deceased.”
An 18-year-old woman was arrested on Tuesday, following the arrests of two teenage boys last week.
The Bethania woman, a 15-year-old boy from West Woombye and a 17-year-old boy from Beerwah have been charged with murder.
She has also been charged with unauthorised use of a motor vehicle, enter dwelling with intent by break, enter dwelling and commit, attempted enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence, and attempted enter dwelling and commit.
She will appear before Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
‘Community has been rocked’
Deputy Queensland premier and local MP Jarrod Bleijie said his community had been shaken by the “sickening” alleged crime.
“We’re a safe community but my community has been rocked by this,” he said.
“I want to pay tribute and offer my condolences to the family of the deceased individual, I also want to thank the police for the amazing effort they’ve put in [over] the last two days in apprehending the alleged offenders who have now been charged with murder.”
Bleijie said under the Crisafulli government’s tough adult crime adult time laws, passed in December, any juvenile convicted of murder in Queensland will serve mandatory life imprisonment.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information or security vision from the area between 11pm on July 13 and 7.35pm on July 14 is urged to contact police.
