On November 27, 2020, the couple were kayaking on the lake when police were told the woman fell into the water and drowned.
She was brought back to shore, where bystanders and paramedics attempted to revive her by performing CPR.
Jacqueline was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initially treated as an accidental death, further investigation — including witness testimony, expert statements, and an autopsy — led police to reopen the case as a homicide.
This week, the investigation resulted in the arrest of Davidson, with police alleging the 55-year-old was involved in the drowning death of his 54-year-old wife.
Court documents now reveal that Davidson claimed a $264,000 life insurance payout just 18 days after Jacqueline’s death.
Davidson, who had been living in Thailand, was arrested earlier this week upon returning to Brisbane.
He now faces charges of murder, fraud, and attempted fraud.
Police allege his motive was linked to his attempts to collect life insurance claims following his wife’s death.
Less than three weeks after Jacqueline’s drowning, Davidson allegedly made a second claim for $950,000, though he never received the payout.
Detectives believe that a breakdown in the couple’s relationship may have contributed to the tragic incident.
Davidson’s case was mentioned in court on Tuesday.
He remains in custody and will face further hearings later this month.
