It is alleged three men arrived at the home looking for Emilio Chalhoub, who police say is the bodyguard of alleged Alameddine crime family associate Ali Younes.
However, instead of finding their alleged target the group mistakenly attacked the bodyguard’s father, Bassam, police claim.
One resident said he saw the victim being chased down the street and “bashed” with a baseball bat.
“(There) was blood pouring out of his head,” Gary Stanton told 7NEWS.
“(It was) pretty horrific.”
The victim was also stabbed in the leg.
Police say the offenders left in an allegedly stolen white Subaru.
Detectives from NSW Police Taskforce Falcon, which was established in May to investigate and dismantle Sydney’s organised crime networks, are investigating.
About an hour after the incident, police searched a home in Wentworthville where they allegedly found a pile of clothes on fire in the backyard.
Soon after, a car was stopped nearby and two males, aged 22 and 15, were arrested.

Police said several hours later the Subaru was found in Granville with two knives and a baseball bat allegedly found inside.
The man and teenager have been charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and assault person intend criminal activity of criminal group for the alleged stabbing.
The 22-year-old was also charged over the alleged theft of a Volkswagen from Double Bay on Tuesday.
He was refused bail to appear in court on Wednesday.
The teenager was also charged over an alleged theft of a car from Condell Park on Tuesday.
He was refused bail to appear in a children’s court on Wednesday.
“Police will allege in court the intended victim of the attack was a relative of the 62-year-old man, who is allegedly affiliated with a high-profile organised criminal network,” NSW Police said.

‘I had no idea’
Residents were shocked to learn their neighbour had alleged links to organised crime.
“(I had) police knocking on my door telling me that there was a stabbing here,” Elias Sousan said.
“I had no idea, I didn’t know they were anywhere in our street.”
There has been a string of alleged gang-related incidents in Sydney over the past six months ranging from public shootings to arson attacks.
Just last week an innocent restaurant worker was caught up in a shooting outside a kebab shop in Auburn.
On June 12 alleged Sydney crime figure Ali Elmoubayed narrowly escaped a targeted shooting when a group of men opened fire on his home.
Bassam remains in hospital as of Tuesday night in a stable condition.
