Pollies need all the luck they can get today as Aussies head to the polls and Monique Ryan has been graced with a little extra this morning, after being pooped on by a bird.

The Independent MP for Kooyong, in the inner-east of Melbourne, Victoria, was all smiles as she was stopped by a reporter outside a polling booth, when the bird struck.

A video posted to X by the ABC shows the reporter begin to ask a question, when Ms Ryan’s face scrunches up in confusion as she looks to the trees above.

“Was that a bird?” Ms Ryan asks.

“I hope that wasn’t a bird,” the reporter says.

“I think it was a bird!” Ms Ryan says with a bit of a laugh.

“But did it get you?” the reporter asks, with Ms Ryan replying, “yeah, it did … there’s more coming out of the tree”.

The reporter tries to reassure Ms Ryan it’s all OK, adding some people say it’s good luck.

Kooyong is a former Liberal Party stronghold lost to the “teal” wave of 2022, but the party believes it has a strong chance of taking Josh Frydenberg’s former seat in Melbourne’s inner-east back from Ms Ryan.

Held by the independent with a 2.2 per cent margin, the Libs have selected fintech executive Amelia Hamer to run this time around.

The two had a beef earlier in the election campaign with a spat arising over election signage.

Ms Ryan’s teal-clothed husband had to embarrassingly apologise after being filmed removing a large campaign poster of Ms Hamer in a suburban Melbourne street.

“I unreservedly apologise for removing the sign,” Peter Jordan said in a statement after the video circulated online showing him being confronted by a Coalition supporter near Burke St, Hawthorn.

“I believed the sign was illegally placed but I should have reported my concerns to council.”

The Teal independent also later apologised for the incident.
