Human remains found earlier this month are missing Bundaberg teenager Pheobe Bishop, her family and police have confirmed.
Police located the remains on June 6 in rugged bushland near Good Night Scrub National Park, close to Gin Gin — about 50km west of Bundaberg, Queensland — as part of the search for the 17-year-old who was reported missing on May 15.

Authorities officially confirmed the identification on Tuesday.
Detective Inspector Craig Mansfield on June 7 said the body was found in “unforgiving” terrain and had not been buried.
On Monday, Bishop’s family told The Courier Mail police had formally identified the remains as hers, while expressing their gratitude for the support and compassion shown during the search.
“Our family would like to thank everyone involved from information reported to searching and everyone who has sent heartwarming messages,” the family said.
“We just would also like to have time to process and grieve this new information as a family and ask for privacy at this time.”
Investigations are continuing into the circumstances of Bishop’s death.
Police had previously searched Good Night Scrub National Park but did not locate any significant evidence at the time.
They believe evidence may have been moved before officers arrived.
Police later alleged Bishop’s body was moved more than once from the park, which is about an hour’s drive from the airport.
Bishop’s housemates James Wood, 34, and Tanika Bromley, 33, were charged on June 5 with murder and interfering with a corpse.
They are expected to face court again in August.
Bishop was last seen when she was allegedly dropped off at Bundaberg Airport by Wood and Bromley. She was planning to fly to Perth to visit her boyfriend but never checked in.
Her boyfriend, identified only as Levi, 18, had been eagerly preparing for their reunion for weeks, his father, Rick, told Daily Mail Australia.
“Levi had bought Pheobe a Canon camera worth $1000 because she wanted to get into photography,” he said.
“A week before she was supposed to land, Levi had packed the 4WD up with camping gear.
“He had planned a trip to Esperance in Western Australia, camping on the beach with Pheobe.
“They were both really excited about that.
“It’s so heartbreaking seeing what could have been a beautiful future together shattered into pieces.”
Rick, a father-of-six, said the young couple were inseparable even from afar.
“They would video chat all night, every night, falling asleep — and then they would tell each other who was sleep-talking the next day,” he said.
“Levi absolutely adored Pheobe.”
Bundaberg Regional Council Mayor Helen Blackburn on Tuesday said the community was devastated by “the heartbreaking outcome none of us wanted”.
“Our community came together in hope — searching, sharing, and praying for Pheobe’s safe return,” she said.
“To Pheobe’s family and friends, I offer my deepest condolences on behalf of the Bundaberg region community. We are holding you in our hearts during this incredibly difficult time.
“Pheobe was taken from this earth far too early, with her whole life ahead of her. We will never forget you, Pheobe.”
Police are continuing to search for more items of interest, as Bishop’s luggage and mobile phone are still missing.
They are also appealing for any information about Bishop and the movements of a grey Hyundai ix35 — believed to be Bromley’s car which Bishop was last seen travelling in — between May 15 and May 18 in the greater Gin Gin area.
