A 65-year-old Lobethal man suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Emergency crews took hours to rescue a driver whose cement mixer crashed and rolled down an embankment north of Adelaide.

The truck crashed on the Stott Hwy at Keyneton, about 10 minutes east from Angaston near the Barossa region, about 9:30am on Monday.

Emergency services worked for hours to cut the sole occupant and truck driver from the crushed truck, who suffered head injuries in the rollover.

The 65-year-old driver was airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition.

Local man Steve said the driver was lucky to be alive, as the Keyneton area is known for its hillside landscapes with deep valleys.

“That person is very lucky to be alive,” he told 7NEWS.

“This is a very dangerous road, down a little bit further, if anyone went over there, he’d be down 200ft and he would be dead.”

Heidelberg Materials confirmed it was one of their drivers involved in the crash.

“We can confirm that an accident took place involving one of our drivers in the Barossa Valley area of Angaston on the morning of 18 August 2025,” they told 7NEWS.

“No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

“Emergency services responded to the incident and the driver is being treated in hospital for his injuries.

“Our thoughts remain with the driver and his family at this difficult time.

“We are currently working with the relevant authorities to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
