The search was launched after the 56-year-old failed to return to the marina.

A search continues on Sunday for a fisherman who failed to return home after a fishing trip.

The 56-year-old man was last seen when he set off from the Batemans Bay Marina, on the south coast of NSW, at about 6am on Saturday.

The fisherman was in an 8m Arvor cruiser, and was last spoken to at about 10am, NSW Police said.

He failed to return to the marina, and emergency services were alerted at 7.20pm.

A major search was launched, involving the Marine Area Command (MAC), the South Coast Police District, Marine Rescue NSW, and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.

“The search continued throughout the night involving vessels from Marine Area Command, Marine Rescue NSW, as well as a fixed wing aircraft and helicopter; however, neither the man nor boat were found,” police said.

Surf Life Saving NSW will join in on the continued search efforts on Sunday.
