Death in custody sparks homicide probe as front yard arrest ends in tragedy at Traralgon

The man died shortly after he was arrested outside his home.

A man has died shortly after he was arrested in his front yard on Sunday.

He was taken into custody on Moore St at Traralgon, in the Latrobe Valley, two hours east of Melbourne, at about 12.50am.

Officers had responded to “reports of a man behaving erratically,” Victoria Police said.

“Shortly after being taken into custody, he became non-responsive.”

Emergency services attempted to revive the man, but he died at the scene.

An ongoing homicide investigation was launched, as is protocol for all deaths in custody.

The exact circumstances around the man’s death remain unclear at this stage.
