It’s a charge plenty would like to enforce, but a Tasmanian magistrate has expressed his surprise after a man faced court for being ‘criminally annoying’.

The Hobart man was charged with the rarely-seen offence on January 3 after allegedly calling a woman a “f***head” numerous times.

Brady Leigh Macpherson, 25, is accused of making the statements towards the woman on Elizabeth St in the Hobart CBD.

In Tasmania, a person is forbidden from jostling, insulting, or annoying another person under the Police Offences Act 1935.

Macpherson is also facing a number of other charges, including contravening the conditions of a notice and cannabis possession.

Upon hearing the unusual accusation, Magistrate Reg Marron reportedly said he “hadn’t seen” the charge before.

Macpherson was granted bail and will return to court in February.
