Charge laid over house fire in Perth’s northeast as seriously burnt survivor remains in hospital

Two people were hospitalised as the blaze destroyed the home.

A burns victim is still recovering in hospital after a housefire on Tuesday, over which a charge has now been laid.

Two people were burnt when the fire engulfed a home on Hamilton St in Bassendean, 20 minutes northeast of Perth CBD, about 4am on Tuesday.

Several people were inside the home where the fire erupted, Western Australia Police said.

A 30-year-old man was seriously injured and remains in hospital in a non-life-threatening condition.

A 29-year-old woman was also hospitalised and treated for minor burns before being released.

There was an estimated $300,000 damage to the home, police said.

Police investigating the cause of the fire have since charged a 29-year-old Bassendean woman with one count of breach of duty.

She is set to appear before Midland Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
