Australia Post has kicked off a mass recruitment drive for an additional 3500 workers as it gears up for what it expects will be a record-breaking Christmas period.

From forklift drivers to parcel sorters, the delivery giant needs to fill a range of seasonal roles from October to December that could open the door to longer-term opportunities.

Cyber sales events and the rapidly approaching holiday season mean demand is already building for parcel services. Last year, almost 103 million parcels were delivered in the lead-up to Christmas.

Roles are open for applications now, with the highest demand for workers in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.

Adult pay rates start at $34.45 for processing (mail officer, parcel sorter) roles and up to $38.58 for licensed roles.

Some roles may also attract additional casual loading for overtime, evening and weekend work.

Sue Davies, Australia Post Executive General Manager, People and Culture, said seasonal team members were vital to ensure timely deliveries to customers across the nation.

“Our ability to deliver parcels to customers quickly and reliably depends on the hard work and commitment of every individual we bring on board. That’s why we’re looking for enthusiastic team members to ensure we can meet the surge in demand and continue providing the trusted service Australians expect from Australia Post.

“People with a valid forklift or truck licence are in particular demand. No experience is required for many of the roles across parcel processing and deliveries.

“These roles offer a good opportunity to earn money in the holiday period and the chance to be part of a supportive and inclusive team where every contribution makes a difference,” Ms Davies said.

“Seasonal roles can also open the door to longer-term opportunities beyond the end of the year. Many of our team members began their journey with us during the Christmas period and have gone on to build lasting careers at Australia Post.”
