The tech company chief executive who was caught allegedly having an affair during a Coldplay concert has been placed on leave.

Astronomer provided a leadership update on Saturday morning saying another senior figure had stepped in as interim CEO.

“Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy is currently serving as interim CEO given Andy Byron has been placed on leave,” the company said.

“We will share more details as appropriate in the coming days.”

Earlier the company released a statement on social media saying there would be a “formal investigation” into what happened at Coldplay’s Boston concert on Wednesday night.

Astronomer chief executive officer Andy Byron and chief people officer Kristin Cabot were spotted embracing on the big screen during a kiss cam, with their unexpected reaction creating a storm on social media.

When the pair realised they were being broadcast to the entire stadium, Cabot covered her face with her hands while Byron ducked completely out of frame.

“Oh, look at these two. You’re all right. You’re OK. Oh, what? Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy,” Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin joked.

The clip of the pair quickly spread across social media platforms including X and TikTok, where they racked up millions of views and thousands of comments.

It didn’t take long for online sleuths to identify the pair and piece together that they were both married, but to other people.

After staying silent following the incident Astronomer finally publicly responded earlier on Saturday morning.

“Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding,” the company said.

“Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability.

“The Board of Directors has initiated a formal investigation into this matter and we will have additional details to share very shortly.”

Byron’s LinkedIn account, which has now been deleted, was flooded with comments from people making jokes about the incident, while his wife’s Facebook account was inundated with messages of sympathy.

According to a now deleted LinkedIn post, it appears as though Cabot only started at the company seven months ago.

“With over 20 years of experience in people and culture leadership, Kristin’s appointment reinforces our commitment to nurturing a collaborative and inclusive environment as we continue to scale,” the post said.

Speaking on Cabot’s appointment in a statement on Astronomer’s website, Byron spoke highly of the executive describing her as a “proven leader”.

“Kristin’s exceptional leadership and deep expertise in talent management, employee engagement, and scaling people strategies will be critical as we continue our rapid trajectory,” Byron said.

“She is a proven leader at multiple growth-stage companies and her passion for fostering diverse, collaborative workplaces makes her a perfect fit for Astronomer.”

Byron’s wife allegedly removed his last name from her Facebook profile after the fallout.

As well as comments of sympathy many urged her to take Byron to court.

“Girl dump his ass and get a good lawyer. You’re too much of a baddie to deal with this,” one person wrote.

“Take him to the cleaners. Get that alimony,” another said.

Coldplay are currently wrapping up the North American leg of their Music of the Spheres World Tour.

The band will head to England in August where they will begin a stretch of 10 shows at Wembley Stadium.
