CCTV and public tip-offs helped detectives lace up the case, tracking the alleged boot bandit to the Gold Coast, police said.
Security footage showed a man entering the shopping centre and wheeling an empty suitcase on a trolley.
Moments later, he can be seen calmly loading a display of discounted shoes into the suitcase.
But the thief unknowingly only took right shoes.
Shop owner Tamara Shorrock was left unable to sell the remaining left boots and facing a $7000 financial hit.
Shorrock confirmed 51 of the 53 missing boots had been returned a week after the theft kicked up headlines and confusion across the country.
The 49-year-old Mount Gravatt East man was arrested at Broadbeach on Wednesday night and charged with one count of enter premises and commit indictable offence.
He is due to face Southport Magistrates Court on Friday.
“It’s not every day you come across a case involving the theft of 53 right shoes,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Blyth said.
All of the stolen shoes have now been recovered and returned to the store.
