Sydney shooting details brought to light

Fresh details about a deadly shooting outside a Forest Lodge pub in Sydney’s inner west have been revealed in a press conference.

The two victims who were shot dead outside on Ross St, had been at The Harold for much of Sunday watching the UFC.

They were walking back to their car when NSW Police Detective Superintendent Alfio Sergi said “they were ambushed” in what is believed to be a targeted attack about 6.40pm.

A 39-year-old man died of relatively close-range injuries near his car.

The surviving victim — a 31-year-old man — ran from the gunman as numerous shots were fired at him, Sergi said.

He was found “slumped over a garbage bin on Alfred St” and medical students who had been inside the pub helped with his first aid until paramedics arrived.

The 31-year-old man was taken to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and has just gone through his second round of surgery.

Police called the incident extremely dangerous due to the narrow street and nearby pub.

Sergi said an employee who was collecting glasses in a terraced area of the pub told police that a bullet “whizzed past her”.

Organised crime networks are currently under investigation.

Anyone who was in the vicinity of the pub between 2pm and 7pm on Sunday have been urged to contact police.

NSW Police Detective Superintendent Alfio Sergi urged anyone who was in the vicinity of The Howard between 2pm and 7pm on Sunday to contact Crime Stoppers.

Thousands of domestic and family violence charges laid in NSW blitz

A domestic and family violence blitz in NSW has resulted in thousands of charges.

NSW Police charged 865 people with 2028 offences between last Wednesday and Saturday.

They identified 669 ADVO and bail breaches, including instances that occurred daily since June, and seized 87 firearms and 31 weapons.

“Police are called to an incident of domestic violence every three minutes in NSW,” NSW Police acting deputy commissioner Peter McKenna said.

Among those charged was a 25-year-old man who allegedly choked and beat a woman at knifepoint in a motel, cutting her arm and stabbing the mattress she was on.

Another offender allegedly struck a woman in the face with a tyre iron, another allegedly threatened to kill a woman and her kids, and another allegedly called his DV victim 668 times from jail.

Multiple offenders have already been released on conditional bail after last week facing court for the DV crimes including previous alleged breaches of AVO and bail conditions.

European leaders to join Zelenskiy at US White House

European leaders are set to show a united front at the White House on Monday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy will meet with US President Donald Trump to discuss an end to Russia’s war in Ukraine.

French, German, British, Italian, Finish and Swedish leaders will all make the trip to support a ceasfire and Peace Agreement.

They are hoping to lock in a US security gaurantee to prevent Russia ambushing Ukraine after a peace deal is reached.

It comes after Trump failed to negotiate an immediate ceasfire when he met with Vladimir Putin, without Zelenskiy, at a US summit in Alaska on Friday.

Putin signalled no movement in Russia’s long-held demands, which include a veto on Kyiv’s desired membership in the NATO alliance.

Trump reportedly told Zelenskiy that Putin had offered to freeze most front lines if Kyiv ceded all of Donetsk, a source familiar with the matter said.

But Zelenskiy rejected the demand, and does not want to hand over any territories that have not already been captured.
