Wedding guest stunned by bizarre details in text message invitation

‘RSVP: Decline, I can drink beer in my evening gown at home without the presence of these people.’

A guest was stunned by a bizarre text message they received inviting them to a friend’s wedding.

The text, which the guest posted to Reddit, said: “We happily invite you and a guest to attend The Black-Tie Event of the Fall.

“A few things to know. Respectfully this is an adults-only reception.

“For drinks, this will be an open bar reception with His & Hers batched drinks and a selection of beer and wine.

“For food, we will be providing light snacks only. This would provide you and your guest with the perfect opportunity to do an elegant evening dinner in our beautiful downtown with endless options before attending the reception.”

Many people who viewed the post were confused or disbelieving.

“Being invited to a black-tie event over text? And this is just a reception invitation, not the actual wedding? And they’re not providing actual food?” one person asked in the comments.

“Seems weird to cheap out on things like invitations and dinner but then ask people to dress black tie. Like it’s both casual yet not at all,” another person remarked.

Someone else suggested the guest should reply: “RSVP: Decline, I can drink beer in my evening gown at home without the presence of these people.”

Another person suggested the “bride or groom must work in marketing” with their line: “The perfect opportunity to do an elegant dinner in our beautiful downtown with endless options.”

“They are trying to put a positive spin on that dinner is on your own,” the commenter said.
