Sal, from the leading Aussie podcast Two Broke Chicks, said there are “three questions you need to ask yourself before every purchase to avoid impulse shopping”.

And asking these to herself every single time she wants to buy something has stopped her from over-spending, impulse buys and regretting items later.

The first question Sal said you need to ask yourself before hitting Add to Cart is “does it solve a problem I genuinely had before I saw it?”

Next is: “Can I borrow it, or do I own something similar?”

The last question to ask yourself is: “Where will it be in five years?”

“If the answer is not in your closet, then maybe it’s not worth buying now,” she said.

“Everybody’s different and these questions aren’t going to work for everyone,” explained Sal.

“They have really helped me shop a little bit more mindfully and avoid impulse purchases, so I thought I’d share.”

Sal’s post garnered many comments and people loved the tips and also shared their own.

“I ask myself is it a want or a need,” said one.

“Brilliant! People spend mindlessly everyday and need to start thinking about which items are important,” added another.

“If in doubt, go without,” said a third.

Sal recently shared a simple hack to score cheap food and drinks around Australia.

Budget expert Sal confessed she had only recently discovered an app called ‘The Happiest Hour App’, which has changed the game when it comes to finding cheap food and drinks around Australia.

“This app gives you a map of all the happy hours, cheap meal deals and drink deals near you,” Sal said in a video on Instagram.

“It also shows you stuff like trivia, raffles and live music, all of which you can then save into a favourites list in the app.

“I found literally hundreds of results near me, but you can also add in your location, the cuisines that you like and stuff that you’re into so that the app can cater the deals to you.

“Where has this app been my whole life?”

The free app has stunned thousands of people.

“This is amazing,” said one.

“Wow, yay, will definitely try this app,” added another.

“Too good, thanks for the recommendation,” said a third.

As well as their podcast Two Broke Chicks, Sal and Al frequently share tips and tricks on saving, budgeting and money hacks to their Instagram, @twobrokechicks.
