Young mum hired a cleaner for $60 per hour. What happened next left her furious

‘I told her she could pack her stuff and leave.’

A young mum hired a professional cleaner from an agency for $60 an hour to tidy her home.

But she was shocked and furious over what happened next.

The woman has outlined a series of events that ensued after she hired the cleaner, whose identity she has protected with the fake name, Eva.

The mum wrote on Reddit that, when Eva arrived at her doorstep, the cleaner had her eight-year-old sister in tow.

When she questioned the cleaner, Eva replied: “I had no one else to leave her with”.

Although the mum thought it was strange, she accepted the explanation — but things quickly took a turn for the worse.

The woman said Eva’s little sister then proceeded to play in her daughter’s room before breaking a custom-made glass bowl.

“I was annoyed but again I held myself together. I told Eva to clean it up and to keep an eye on her sister,” she wrote.

The mum said she went and picked up a cake for her daughter, before putting it in the fridge and then leaving to pick her daughter up from school.

Upon arriving home, to her horror, she found Eva’s sister in the kitchen eating a slice of the cake.

“I have never had an issue like this before — in fact, cleaning ladies never open my fridge cause they have no business there,” said the disgruntled woman.

She confronted Eva, and the cleaner said: “My sister was really sad and really wanted cake, so I figured she could have a piece”.

“My daughter started crying because she was looking forward to the cake, and the piece with strawberries that she wanted was gone,” said the young mum.

The woman said she told Eva it wasn’t “her place to figure whether her sister could eat something from my fridge without asking me”.

The cleaning lady retorted with: “You are getting mad for no reason, just take the money from my pay”.

At this point, the woman had had enough and told Eva to “pack her stuff and leave with her sister” and not to finish cleaning the house.

“I paid her for three hours but sent her home after only two,” she said.

‘Screams of a scam’

The woman turned to the internet for advice, after a friend told her she had overreacted.

Many Reddit users agreed the woman was not in the wrong for having told the cleaner to leave.

“When you booked your cleaner, you did NOT agree to having a child running around the home — honestly ‘Eva’ is lucky you paid her at all.”

Another suggested: “Call the agency and tell them, this so obviously screams of a ‘scam’.”

A third said: “That was really unprofessional, and you would have been totally justified to report her to the cleaning agency.”

Although the woman was furious, she said she didn’t report Eva to the agency.
